CHESHUNT 0 CONCORD RANGERS 0

Ryman League Division 1 North
Saturday 8th November 2008

Harry England reports...........

Another rainy Saturday greeted visiting Concord from Canvey Island. Michael Toner finally made his debut after being an unused sub in previous games, although only played around forty seconds!

Neither side managed to find any rhythm throughout the game although there was certainly no lack of scoring opportunities. Dane Collins had the first decent chance of the game as his long range free-kick hit the Ambers' post. Shane Oakley then also got through the defence (without the presence of Shayne Mangodza or Darren Williams who had both left the club during the week) however Chris Goodchild was as usual on great form, and blocked the shot with his foot.

The first booking of the game came for Stevland Angus after nineteen minutes after he clattered into Reece Prestedge, the midfielder needing several minutes of treatment on the sidelines before continuing.

Yohance LewisYohance Lewis (left) had a good effort hammered over two minutes later, an effort he'll be kicking himself for now he knows the game ended in a draw. Kai Ramshaw had a good chance soon after, as his volley was deflected looping agonisingly over the bar.

Glen Parry and Michael Begg were booked for a scrap near the corner flag ten minutes before the end of the half, before Goodchild made a world-class save. Angus had a long-range effort deflected, and Goodchild showed excellent reactions to adjust to the new position of the ball, holding onto it confidently.

After pretty much dominating the first half, The Ambers were looking to finish the game off in the second by scoring the decisive goal.

Adam Rafis charged out of his net for Concord early on, and miskicked the ball but nobody took advantage of the opportunity. Bradley Harrison then had a chance, but the ball bobbled before he kicked it and rolled disappointingly wide.
Aaron Scott cleared a deep cross from inside the six-yard box before the ball fell to skipper Nicky Cowley who hit wide. Harrison then had another effort seen wide.

Glen Parry was flattened by Gary Ogilvie on the hour-mark, but the referee, for some reason, allowed play to continue, before stopping it due to Parry's head injury.

However Concord were unlucky with some decisions too, as Dobson blatantly handballed near the penalty area, but went unpenalised.

Match ActionYohance Lewis had an even better chance than his first-half one on sixty-two minutes, but he somehow blazed his shot over.

Reece Prestedge was then controversially booked for tussling with a Concord player before Collins had another free-kick well saved by Goodchild. Gavin Taylor then had a hopeful lob from thirty-yards watched just wide- although he showed good vision for the shot.

Mervin AbrahamĀ  had the crowd on their feet in the final minute but his shot was brilliantly saved by Rafis.
Gavin Taylor capped off an eventful match by being booked, for apparently having his own shirt pulled!
