REDBRIDGE 1 CHESHUNT 0

Ryman League Division 1 North
Saturday 27th September 2008

Harry England reports...........

A mid-table battle between The Ambers and The Motormen looked a fairly even contest going into the game. Simon Peddie faced his former club Cheshunt, whilst debutant Shayne Mangodza - signed from Potters Bar- made his Cheshunt debut at centre-back

The game threatened to be a thriller early on as an Anton Agodomor cross-shot was cleared from the post by Mangodza. Minutes later, Kai Ramshaw had two good opportunities for Cheshunt. His first half-volley thundered off a Redbridge defender, and his second effort went out for a corner from which nothing came.

Attacks were aplenty although it appeared that on more than one occasion the front men of either club looked scared to shoot, resulting in virtually every attack being scuppered just outside the area leading to dull possession games. Twenty minutes in however, and the home side would have taken the lead but for a goal-line clearance of Agdomor's shot.

Agdomor was looking bright for The Motormen and around the half-hour mark the slightest of touches from him would have turned in Earl Sterling's teasing cross.
Cheshunt's best chance of the game was produced by Kai Ramshaw as he unleashed a screamer over the 'keeper only to see his effort denied by the crossbar.

The Ambers were still piling on the pressure and Mark Gradosielski had an effort denied by the foot of opposing goalkeeper Tony Tucker. Going into half-time however, Redbridge found a bit of rhythm, and chances for Lee Matson and Jacob Ershire should have been converted.

It took a while for both teams to find their pace in the second-half though, the first half chance coming nine minutes in although Sterling's shot was blocked by Mangodza. Nathan Scarborough should have put his flying header in after sixty-five minutes, but the real danger came for The Ambers three minutes later. Jacob Ershire's back heel was booted off the line by Gary Schillachi before a shot from the edge of the area was cleared off the line again, this time by Glen Parry. Kai Ramshaw prevented another attack though, and was booked for his tackle.

The only goal of the game, the winner for Redbridge, came thirteen minutes from time, and was a great goal for Nathan Scarborough. He had no space and his back to goal, but he somehow pivoted on one foot, and struck the ball low and hard, out of reach of Chris Goodchild for 1-0.

Mark Gradosielski added to Cheshunt's woes with six minutes of normal time left, after a knee injury saw him receive several minutes of treatment before being stretchered off.
