Ryman League Division 1 North

Harry England reports...........

Thamesmead made the journey from South London on a mild Tuesday evening for this fixture postponed from earlier in the season due to their Cup commitments.

Prestedge & Harrison
The game got off to a slow start and there was fifteen minutes on the clock before any real action of note and even then the fans were left disappointed. Daniel Bradford squared from the right for Lee Roberts but the winger's shot flew over the bar. A couple of minutes later Bradford was again involved, this time teeing up Reece Prestedge but Kessell in the visitors' goal saved well at his feet.

Yohance Lewis had the best opportunity of the first period around the half hour mark as Kessell came charging off his line. A lob would have done it for Lewis but he tried to go round the diving keeper and saw the ball run out of play. Soon after and Kai

Ramshaw was fouled just outside the area but Bradley Harrison's free kickjust cleared the bar.

Skipper Glen Parry's marauding runs down the left continued to cause the visitors problems and the full back was linking well with Lewis but the final ball was just missing and it was left to Daniel Bradford to provide the last action of the first half when he struck a fierce shot from a tight angle that was tipped over the bar superbly by the impressive Kessel.

The second half kicked off in similar fashion with Lewis and Parry posing the most consistent threat. On 55 minutes the newly introduced Abraham met one of Lewis' crosses but the striker's goal bound header was brilliantly tipped over the bar by Kessell. Thamesmead then had a spell during which time the Ambers goal came under pressure. Richard Dimmock's cross nearly floated into the top corner and Rikki Cable went round Chris Goodchild to put the ball in the net only for his effort to be disallowed by the linesman's flag.Harrison

Cheshunt were enjoying the bulk of possession though and Bradley Harrison blasted wide when through on goal from Gavin Taylor's pass when perhaps he should have done better and Laurence Collins went close to putting the home side one up when volleying wide of his own goal!

Harrison finally broke the deadlock with ten minutes remaining instantly controlling Michael Toner's pass and guiding the ball past Kessell into the bottom left corner but Cheshunt's lead was nearly short lived as the visitors went after an equaliser and Scott Mulholland's fine drive from distance smashed against the underside of Goodchild's bar and away to safety.

The points were secured however in stoppage time when Prestedge smashed the loose ball home from close range after Kessell had parried Gavin Taylor's shot.
